Rooted in Njombe.
Save the Planet (STP) is a community environmental organisation based in Luduga Ward, Wanging'ombe District, Njombe Region. We work on the problems our neighbours name themselves: bare hillsides, drying springs, plastic waste with nowhere to go, and soils that no longer hold a harvest.
Our story
Started by neighbours, run by volunteers.
STP was founded by Emanuel Mwampamba together with residents of Luduga Ward who were watching land they had farmed for a generation lose its cover. What began as a handful of seedling beds behind a house grew into a field office, community nurseries and environment clubs in nearby schools.
The organisation stays deliberately small and hands-on. Decisions are made in village meetings, and the people doing the planting are the people who live with the result.

A Njombe where every village has trees to shade it, water it can trust, and soil that feeds it.

To restore land and livelihoods through practical, community-led environmental action.
5 million seedlings by 2030 is a target we are working towards, not a result already achieved.
How we work.
Local first
Nurseries, collection points and clubs are run by residents of the wards where the work happens.
Practical, not theoretical
Every activity produces something visible — a nursery bed, a planted hillside, a cleared dumping site.
Low cost by design
We reuse what is already in the village: plastic containers, tyres, farm residue and volunteer labour.
Honest reporting
We publish only what we can show. Where numbers are still being counted, we say so.
